Seven Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Yixing Teapot
A good product inquiry starts with clear questions. Use this checklist to compare information about the actual teapot you are considering.
1. What capacity is being measured?
Ask whether the quoted volume is measured to the brim or is the recommended working volume. Explain how many people you normally serve and the amount of tea you prefer to brew.
2. What is the material description?
Ask for the supplier’s precise clay description. Names such as Zini, Duanni, Hongni, Lvni and Jiangponi are useful catalogue categories, but a name is not independent proof of composition or origin.
3. How was this piece made?
Request a description of the making process. If a listing claims a specific maker or handmaking method, ask what information supports that statement.
4. Can I see the functional details?
Request clear photographs of the lid, spout, handle and base, in addition to the main view. A short pouring video can help answer questions that a still image cannot.
5. What are the dimensions?
Capacity and exterior size are different measurements. Ask about height, width and weight if storage, handling or gifting matters to you.
6. What care does the maker recommend?
Ask about first use, cleaning and any restrictions specific to the piece. Do not assume every clay vessel should be treated in exactly the same way.
7. What is included in shipping?
Confirm packaging, destination, delivery options and the process for reporting transit damage before placing an order. Ask for a written quotation for your country.
