Choosing Jingdezhen Teaware for Your Tea Table
Choosing tea ceramics is easier when you separate what a vessel does from how it is decorated. A gaiwan and a tea cup have different roles; blue-and-white and painted enamel describe aspects of their decoration.
Start with function
List the pieces you need: a brewing vessel, drinking cups, a serving pitcher or a coordinated set. For a set, ask for the number of pieces and the capacity of each vessel.
Then compare decoration
Our catalogue distinguishes Qinghua (blue-and-white), Youlihong (underglaze red), Doucai, Fencai (famille rose) and Falangcai. Ask the supplier to explain the technique used on the actual item. A decorative style does not by itself establish age, maker or quality.
Request useful photographs
Ask to see the inside, rim, foot and lid, where applicable. Detail photographs should supplement a full view. When considering a hand-decorated set, ask whether the pictured set is the actual one supplied or a representative example.
Confirm use and care
Ask whether the vessel is intended for food contact and hot tea, and request any relevant documentation needed in your destination market. Confirm cleaning instructions and any restrictions involving appliances, metallic decoration or sudden temperature changes.
Make your inquiry specific
Include the vessel type, preferred decoration, quantity, destination and intended use. This helps us respond with suitable information rather than a generic list.
